Tenby Powell is co-founder of Hunter Powell Investment Partners, a New Zealand based private investment firm. He has invested in and led high growth leveraged businesses since 1997 and has extensive M&A, Governance, organizational leadership, marketing & communications, brand and operational experience. Prior to this, he held senior management positions in leading New Zealand corporations including Fletcher Challenge and Skellerup Group.

Tenby is a professional Director with Governance experience in the private sector and Government entities. He is currently Chairman of Waikato Link Ltd (the commercialization and technology transfer company of the University of Waikato); Chairman of Aldera Ltd (a New Zealand company dedicated to creating diversified solutions for the animal health industry); Chairman Designate of Uni-Partners (a proposed Australian public company focused on the creation of start-up and early stage companies from university derived research in the wider Australasian region to enhance commercial outcomes and market growth); and Convenor of the Government appointed Small Business Development Group (advising Government on the dynamics of the small business economy and the impact of policies on this ecosystem).

Tenby has also held Chairmanships of Envoy 360 FZ LLC (a New Zealand owned maritime security and risk management company); Advaro Finance; Yoogo vehicle leasing; and Wedgelock Equipment. He has held Directorships in Antarctica New Zealand (a Government appointed crown entity responsible for New Zealand’s activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean); New Zealand Rental Group (where he was CEO and co-investor responsible for leading a national consolidation of the hire sector); Greenlane Biogas (a clean-tech business operating globally in bio-methane upgrading); Acrow Limited (New Zealand’s largest scaffolding, formwork, falsework and event infrastructure company); The Icehouse (a development factory of owner-managers and entrepreneurs providing business growth programmes, a business incubator for start-ups, and New Zealand’s largest group of Angel Investors); The Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (Westpac Rescue Helicopter); and Angel Link (a national angel investment network to back New Zealand high growth technology ventures, with an emphasis on life sciences, engineering and ICT).

Tenby served for 28 years in the Regular and Reserve Forces of the New Zealand Army, retiring in the rank of Lt Colonel following an appointment as Deputy Commander of a UN unit based in the Middle East and Commanding Officer of the Auckland Battalion. In December 2015, he was appointed Colonel Commandant of the recently merged 3rd and 6th Battalions, RNZIR, in the rank of Colonel.
