About this opportunity

This fully funded 3-year PhD project will develop novel methods for high-resolution 3D geological modelling of sedimentary basins to improve earthquake ground motion prediction in Aotearoa New Zealand. We seek a student with a research Masters degree, ideally in geology, geophysics, geological engineering, or a related field, with interests in basin analysis, subsurface modelling, and seismic hazard.

Eligibility

The ideal candidate would have at least one of the following:

  1. Research experience in sedimentary basin analysis, stratigraphy, or geological modelling.
  2. Familiarity with GIS and subsurface modelling tools (e.g. ArcGIS, Petrel, or similar).
  3. A background in siliciclastic sedimentology, stratigraphy, and/or structural geology.

The successful applicant should be eligible to enrol at the University of Waikato (please check PhD enrolment requirements).

Interviews will be conducted via video conferencing.

 

Upon approval from the selection committee, the successful applicant will be guided through the Doctor of Philosophy enrolment process.

 

Final acceptance is subject to approval by the University of Waikato School of Graduate Research.
