The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is the University of Waikato's premier school leaver scholarship. It enables recipients to excel and is for those with strengths in three key pillars: 1) excellence in a sporting code or creative or performing art, 2) high academic achievement, and 3) strong leadership qualities or potential. Recipients will be supported during their studies with a tailored leadership and personal development programme.

Please ensure you read the 'Guidelines on Applying for School Leaver Scholarships' before you commence the application process.
Please also note that all applicants are required to submit a 3-minute video of themselves as part of the online application. This video should outline why they believe they should be a Hillary Scholar and what it would mean to them. Applicants will need to provide the link in the space provided on the online application and it must be accessible to all i.e. the link must be able to be shared with everyone.

For school leavers with strengths in three key pillars: 1) excellence in a sport or creative/performing art, 2) high academic achievement, and 3) strong leadership qualities or potential. Students taking one gap year may also apply. The Selection Panel will also take into account the applicant’s willingness and ability to fully participate in, and contribute to, the Hillary Scholarship Programme.
