The Kaimai Shuttle

The University offers a free first-in, first-served shuttle service between the Hamilton and Tauranga campuses.

The service is available to enrolled students of the University whose main residence is in one region and who are required to travel from one campus to the other for classes, research supervision, or matters that are related to their University study. The Kaimai shuttle is also available to University of Waikato staff.

The Kaimai Shuttle will run during the teaching weeks of Trimester A and B. It will not run during teaching recesses, study, and examination weeks. The bookings are on a first-in, first-served basis.

In response to the positive increase in demand for the morning Kaimai Shuttle services from Tauranga to Hamilton, the University has contracted a 29-seater bus to replace the 10-seater shuttle van for the first of the daily runs to Hamilton and the final run to Tauranga. This adjustment, effective from 5 March 2020, will be trialed for 6 weeks and feedback is welcomed. The bus will depart the Tauranga campus at the earlier time of 7am (from 7.15am) and the return service will depart the Hamilton campus at the same time of 5.15pm. Arrival/departure locations will remain the same - just look out for the bus instead of the shuttle van on those two runs.

Please be aware that you can sit your end of trimester examination in another location. Eg. if your paper is taught in Hamilton you can sit your exam at the Tauranga campus. To arrange this, complete the OOT/OL form (there is no charge for this service).

Arrival/departure locations

Shuttle vans seat up 10 passengers per trip. The bus seats up to 29 passengers per trip and is available for the Tauranga to Hamilton 7am service and the Hamilton to Tauranga 5.15pm service only. The shuttle vans and bus will arrive and depart from the following locations:

Campus Pick-up and drop-off points
Tauranga campus Durham Lane by the visitor car parks (outside the 24-hour computer lab). Note: Durham Lane is the back entrance to the campus and is not on Google Maps.
Hamilton campus Main University Bus Stop (Gate 1, outside campus shops)
