Summer accommodation

Need a place to stay over the summer? Here’s everything you need to know about who can stay, where you can stay, contract dates, prices, and how to apply.

The university offers accommodation during the C Trimester/Summer period. Spaces are limited, so applying early is your best chance as we can’t guarantee a spot for everyone.

C Trimester accommodation will be available between Monday 3 November 2025 – Saturday 7 February 2026. These dates are fixed and can’t be changed.

  • If you’re not already living in University accommodation, the earliest contract start/move in date is Monday 3 November.
  • We can not offer earlier arrivals because B Trimester contracts run until Saturday 1 November.

Who can stay over summer

Summer accommodation is available for:

  • Current University of Waikato students

  • Jumpstart students

  • University of Waikato interns

  • Teachers attending block courses at the University of Waikato

We’re not able to offer summer accommodation to people who're not connected with the University of Waikato.

Current residents

If you’re a current resident and need accommodation after Saturday 1 November (for example, due to teaching practicums, nursing placements, or waiting for flights), you’ll need to apply for C Trimester accommodation.

Choose between: 

  1. Extending your stay for up to three weeks (until Saturday 22 November), or

  2. Staying for the full length of G or C Trimester.

Current residents may be required to move to another room/hall for the period of your summer stay. These exact details will be confirmed at a later date.

Casual accommodation and block courses

  • Casual accommodation – offered fully catered only.
  • Teachers attending block courses – fully catered accommodation at Student Village only.
  • Jumpstart students – fully catered accommodation at Bryant Hall or Selwyn Street Studios (TBC) only.

Contract information

Applications take time to process. You will be contacted from early September with the outcome of your application, so please do not expect an instant response after applying.

Contract and payment

  • If your application is approved, we’ll send you a contract with terms, conditions, and payment details.

  • Payment must be made online via the University accommodation portal. We do not accept cash.

  • Payment will only be accepted from students with a confirmed contract; you can’t pay to influence the outcome.

If you have already applied for 2026 accommodation, this will be considered when assessing your C Trimester application.

Where possible, you will be placed in the same room as your 2026 contract so you won't need to move again. Note that this is subject to availability though, and cannot be guaranteed. Room allocations are managed by the halls staff.

Summer accommodation move-in and end dates

Note that these dates are fixed and cannot be changed.

Move-in dates

  • If you’re not currently living in University accommodation, the earliest you can move in is Monday 3 November.

  • We can’t offer earlier arrivals, as B Trimester contracts finish on Saturday 1 November.

Contract end dates

  • For C and H Trimester residents, contracts end on Saturday 7 February 2026, unless you have a confirmed 2026 A Trimester, Academic Year, or Full Year contract.

  • Accommodation cannot be extended past this date.

Early arrivals for 2026 residents – only available for confirmed 2026 residents and subject to availability.

Casual accommodation – Available if you don’t need a room for the full length of C, G, or H Trimester.

Due to the limited spaces available over summer, we may not be able to offer everyone their preferred accommodation option. You may be offered an alternative.

  • Bryant Hall Cottages (self catered) — $240.00
  • Bleakley Place Apartments Standard (Self catered) — $250.00
  • Bleakley Place Apartments Ensuite  (Self catered) — $272.00
  • Orchard Park Cottages (self catered) — $240.00
  • Orchard Park Studios (self catered) — $272.00
  • Silverdale Road Apartments (self catered) — $321.00 (single)
  • Silverdale Road Apartments (self catered) — $385.00 (couple)

Tauranga campus

  • Selwyn Street Tauranga (self catered) — $290.00

Trimester dates

  • C Trimester: 2 November 2024 – 8 February 2025*
  • G Trimester: 2 November 2024 – 20 December 2024*
  • H Trimester: 6 January 2025 – 8 February 2025

*Move in day for a student not currently in the hall is 11 November 2024 unless a room is available prior to this date. Please contact us on accom@waikato.ac.nz if you will be arriving before 11 November 2024 so we can check room availability.

Current resident staying on for 1–2 weeks after 2 November 2024
If you are a current resident and need to stay on for 1—2 weeks after 2 November 2024 due to teaching practicums, nursing placements or waiting for flights etc, you can do so. You will be charged by the week.

If you are currently in Bryant Hall or Orchard Park you will stay where you are. If you are in Student Village or College Hall, we will advise you of how this will work closer to the time. Whether you stay in your current hall or move will depend on how many students we have needing to stay on.

Casual accommodation / Block courses
Students requiring accommodation for Casual / Block courses will be in fully catered only. Due to limited spaces available, you will be allocated accommodation based on the dates and the reason you are here. You will be charged by the week (no daily rate)

  • Teachers Block Courses (January 2025) – Student Village (Upgrade) $400.00
  • All others (including Manaaki Scholars, 2025 early arrivals etc) – Bryant Hall $350.00
  • Jump Start – will be allocated Bryant Hall

We will only allocate a self catered room to someone who books in for either the full C, G or H Trimester.
