The Student Health Service: Hauora Ākonga
Welcome! Nāu mai! Ko tā mātou he whakaratonga hauora ki te hunga akonga kua whakaurua ki Te Whare Wananga.
Student Health is here to support our students with any health concerns or questions you may have. We strive to deal with any concerns or questions quickly and discreetly to ensure we are a service you trust and utilise while studying here at Waikato.
Our services acknowledge the mana whenua of Kīngi Tuheitia and te whānau Kāhui Āriki. Built upon the whenua of Ngāti Wairere, Student Health’s culturally diverse team of experts embody Tā Mason Durie's Te Whare Tapa Wha model of practice. Our intention is for an integrated service were ngā taha hīnengaro, wairua, tīnana and whānau can be supported and enhanced for tauira during their studies.
We have a range of services available to students on both campuses. For more information about Tauranga Student Health Services, click here.
Update on Student Health during Traffic Light System
ALL services at Student Health remain operational during all settings of the COVID-19 Protection Framework (traffic lights). At Orange and Red, our front doors are locked and we are operating via telehealth/virtual consults mostly (unless otherwise arranged).
All in person appointments will also start with a phone call - please wait in your car or away from the front entrance for your call at your allocated appointment time.
We want to reassure you that we are still here for you and your whānau - we're just doing things a little differently. When you make an appointment you will be able to book a telephone or video consultation, or if you feel you need a face to face appointment one of our clinical team will talk to you over the phone about it first.
If you have access to the patient portal, we encourage you to use it to book appointments and/or email a doctor or nurse with any non-urgent questions.
Routine care such as vaccines and sexual health checks are still available.
The Mental Health Nurses and Counsellors are available, however all appointments will be via telehealth (phone call or video). If you need to be seen in person, please discuss this with the nurse or counsellor.
Meet our new partners at Practice Plus, and keep them in mind if a virtual, after hours, GP consultation is right for you. Please use the URL link to find out how to use Practice Plus for virtual after hours GP appointments https://practiceplus.nz/.
The cost for after hours consult will be $55.00 and $19.50 with a community services card.
