E ngā waka

Kia maiangi tārewa i te awa o Waikato.

Hukehukea te hoe o te mātauranga kia pou titia

Toi ake ki te papa o Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato

Nau mai, haere mai!

Now more than ever Māori leaders are playing a significant role in shaping our nation and more will be called upon to support the shaping of the generations yet to come. As our future leaders this is a time for you to further develop and refine your skills, expand and strengthen your knowledge base, build relationships for the future and prepare for a career and life beyond study.

Coming to University can be daunting but we want you to know that there is a whānau here committed to supporting your success. Māori students are visible and actively engaged in all aspects of University life, through a dedicated leadership role in the Waikato Students’ Union, Māori student groups across the University and Pūtikitiki, our Māori student space.

Alongside our student rōpū is the Māori ki Waikato whānau. Our collective goal is to assist you as you strive for success for you, your whānau, communities, marae, hapū and iwi.

Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui. Pai Mārire.

Choosing your course

We offer a broad range of degrees, diplomas and certificates across more than 100 subjects. Our degree programmes are flexible, meaning you can customise your qualification to suit your strengths, interests and career plans. This ensures you graduate fully prepared for life beyond study.

We appreciate that many students have ongoing work and family commitments, and so we offer full and part-time study options.

To find out more about our qualifications visit waikato.ac.nz/study or contact our Future Student Adviser (Māori) at [email protected]

Accommodation

At the University of Waikato we have four halls of residence available for our students to choose from. Bryant Hall offers a unique opportunity for Maori students where they can choose to live on the Kaupapa Maori floor. Nga-Tokorua-a-Taingahue allow students to live with other like-minded students where they can embrace their culture while living in a supportive academic environment.

Scholarships

The University of Waikato and our partners offer a range of scholarships and awards to assist students with fees and living expenses, and to support academic and research excellence. To search our database to find a scholarship or award that is right for you, please see here.

In addition to the scholarships listed in the link above we also have academic-led research project funding for masters and doctoral studies, as well as external opportunities offered by other funders that support most levels of study.
