Where our career data comes from

Our career pages combine automated, official data feeds with our University of Waikato content and guidance.

Automated data from Tahatū

The core information at the top of our career pages is sourced via an Application Programming Interface (API) from Tahatū Career Navigator (opens in a new tab).

• This data includes: Standardised job titles in English and Te Reo, pay scales, skill requirements, what you would do in this career, entry pathways, related careers and national career insights.

• Why it is unchangeable: This data is owned and managed centrally by Tahatū Career Navigator, a national service managed by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). To ensure consistency, we cannot manually edit or alter these data fields on our website. Read about how this data is collected, updated, and managed on the Tahatū data page (opens in a new tab).

• We work with the TEC staff, who develop and maintain Tahatū, to identify and fix mistakes and expand their information.

Below the niho pattern on the page, we add context to make the information useful for our users.

• What this includes: Linking to the related information such as qualifications or subjects, entry requirements, rankings or accreditations, student success stories, scholarships, contact links, and tailored student guidance through FAQs.

• Why we add it: The API supplies the core data, but our team adds practical advice and support to help users connect this career to the study pathways at Waikato.

• For general page feedback: Contact the web team so we can assist or update our custom content.
• For career data questions: Tahatū owns the underlying data feed, any updates to official career descriptions and national metrics must be requested directly through Tahatū (opens in a new tab).
