Why study the Graduate Certificate of Science Practice?

The Graduate Certificate of Science Practice (GradCertScPrac) is an additional qualification available to our Bachelor of Science (BSc) graduates in any of our science majors.

The GradCertScPrac emphasizes the professional practice of science, offering opportunities for hands-on learning in workplace applications, teamwork, communication and reflective learning. It equips students with advanced skills and knowledge to apply scientific concepts effectively in professional settings.

Additionally, the programme prepares students for an easy transition from study to the workplace, fostering advancement into management or leadership roles through direct workplace involvement in the learning process.

It provides students with the opportunity to put theory learnt into practice, broadening their understanding and preparing them for employment. In addition, student build valuable professional connections as a result of the work placements.

Students need to first complete SCIEN270 and then complete SCIEN371 and SCIEN300 at the same time. SCIEN371 is the work placement paper and includes a minimum of 300 hours in a relevant workplace, during which students are generally paid wages or equivalent for their work.

Graduates from the GradCertScPrac will be able to progress to any graduate certificate/diploma and masters degree offered in Science, and eventually be able to progress onto a PhD.
