Closes 01 December | Undergraduate
Every year Horticulture New Zealand and the Horticentre Trust offer scholarships to students who have a special interest in the fruit and/or vegetable industry and are studying towards an undergraduate degree.
Sixteen Horticulture Undergraduate Scholarships are available in 2024. Thirteen of these scholarships are valued at $1,500 with nine awarded to applicants from each of New Zealand's growing regions (one applicant from each region will be selected).
The remaining four Horticulture Undergraduate Scholarships will be awarded nationally.
Thirteen Horticulture Undergraduate Scholarships are valued at $1,500 each. Three Horticentre Trust Scholarships valued at $4,500 are awarded to the top three applicants nationally.
Closes 1 December | Postgraduate
Every year Horticulture New Zealand (HortNZ) offers scholarships that are open to New Zealand students and trainees who have a special interest in the fruit or vegetable industry and are undergoing significant industry training or education.
Horticulture New Zealand Postgraduate Scholarship
This scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is awarded to a student undertaking postgraduate study in horticulture or a related field.
New Zealand Fruitgrowers Charitable Trust Postgraduate Scholarship
This scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is awarded to a student undertaking postgraduate study specifically related to the fruit industry.

The main purpose of the NZSHS Research Scholarship is to encourage and support academically excellent students to complete a research project on a sexual health related topic. The overall aims are to:
- Encourage and disseminate research on priority sexual health issues in Aotearoa
- Foster postgraduate sexual health research capacity in Aotearoa
- Provide a potential pathway to PhD study and build the sexual health research workforce
- Further the interest in the NZSHS
The NZSHS Research Scholarship provides a stipend of up to $10,000 per annum, for up to 12 months for students enrolled in a postgraduate (Honours or Masters) degree.
Closes 16 December | Graduate | Postgraduate
There are two Tagaloa Scholarships on offer for the final year of postgraduate study, which will support Pacific tertiary students to achieve in tertiary institutions. The Scholarships are part of the Ministry’s wider Talanoa Ako response to the Pacific PowerUP evaluations 2016 -2019.
The two Tagaloa post-graduate scholarships available are:
- One masters Scholarship of $10,000 for one year of full-time study
- One Doctoral Scholarships of $14,000 for one year of full-time study.
The Tagaloa Scholarship is for one year. The successful applicants will be notified and awarded their scholarship in January 2023 academic year.

The MacDiarmid Institute is delighted to announce the continued funding of its Discovery Scholarship Programme, for Māori and Pacific Island students in tertiary science. This is an extension of our long running DiscoveryCamp programme, to support students studying in the physical sciences, chemical/materials engineering, Māori sciences or sciences related to sustainable innovation.

The Hoe Tahi Scholarships are for those intending to undertake study in a qualification which contributes to reducing alcohol and other Drug (AOD) harms. This scholarship aims to strengthen the existing and emerging AOD workforce by growing the capacity and capability of those working with whānau who have AOD challenges.
Closes 31 December | Undergraduate | Graduate | Postgraduate
This Scholarship of up to $2,000 was established in 1998, as a memorial to the late Mr Murray King, to enable Wairarapa ((secondary) schooled or currently domiciled) students to attend a New Zealand university and obtain degree qualifications, with particular emphasis on, soil conservation, soil and land management, indigenous forest management and conservation management. Preference will be given to students who are eligible to enter the third year or beyond, of an appropriate degree course. Postgraduates are eligible to apply. In awarding the Scholarship the following factors may be considered:
- academic ability
- personal attributes
- relevance of course study
- community associations
- potential for future career success
