What made you choose to study at the University of Waikato? And your degree in particular?

The people I had met prior to coming were very welcoming and friendly and I liked the campus.

The degree had a nice amount of project-based learning, but the main draw card was being able to participate in uni Formula SAE team (WESMO).

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me includes handling some admin then mostly doing design and some problem solving for the WESMO car. A meeting, some study and a bit of tutoring/lab demonstrating thrown in for good measure before heading off to work at night. A healthy dose of talking to friends is also essential!

Highlight of your study so far?

The highlight of my study so far is definitely the people I've met through networking, making some lifelong friends. Having endless opportunities everywhere to develop and learn outside the classroom (If you're willing to seek them out and take them!)

What's your best tip for making the most of university life?

You will likely never be around this many diverse and brilliant people again in your life, so my tip would be network as much as possible. I have met people with incredible backgrounds and friend groups. You can learn something from everyone, and connections are all around you if you choose to look for them. Find friends with similar goals and mindsets to push you outside your comfort zone and be better. Make sure you enjoy uni life too!

How do you think you can make a difference through your studies?

Hopefully I can inspire others to join the WESMO team to continue innovating and improving the car.

What do you plan on doing when you finish your degree?

I plan on working at my current firm for about a year to complete my goals and see them develop to the next business stage. Then I hope to get into consulting or product development to diversify my learning before starting my own firm within the next 4 years.
