Wenyue Ruan
Bachelor of Design, Certificate of Attainment in Academic English
Lead Creative at Waikato Students' Union
Qualification(s)
Since she was a child, Wenyue Ruan dreamed of travelling from China to New Zealand and this dream came true when she moved to the University of Waikato to study a Bachelor of Design.
To ease her transition to studying in New Zealand, Wenyue first enrolled in a Certificate of Attainment in Academic English at Waikato Pathways College.
“The College was a great way for me to develop my academic writing, listening and study skills. My English also improved a lot, thanks to the Pathways drop-in sessions, conversation practice opportunities, and the amazing resource library; it gave me the best possible start to my university career.”
Moving to the University of Waikato wasn’t a decision Wenyue made lightly. She visited several New Zealand universities, but immediately fell in love with Waikato’s campus and strong Pathways’ programmes. "I would definitely recommend the Pathways course to anyone wanting an introduction to university – it taught me so much.”
“I love the atmosphere in Hamilton, and the University of Waikato campus is beautiful – it’s great that the University is all on one campus, with nice trees, lakes and buildings. Hamilton is clearly a growing city, so it’s a good place to be.”
Wenyue loved her studies and now works as Lead Creative, graphic and multimedia designer at Waikato Students' Union where she enjoys using her degree in the design industry.
