What made you choose to study at Waikato?
The environment is very supportive, with smaller classes for more personalised teaching.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I wake up at 5am for morning prayer and then try to get some exercise in, if my schedule isn’t too busy. I usually spend my day at uni studying and hanging out with friends.
Congratulations on winning the Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia! What does this opportunity mean to you?
It’s surreal – the scholarship covers the fees, travel and accommodation costs for my eight week internship in Vietnam. I’ve always wanted to go to Southeast Asia so I'm really grateful for the opportunity. I will be completing an internship at Direct MX – a company that creates bags from 100% recycled plastic. I’ll learn how they outsource and help them enter the New Zealand market.
Highlight of your degree so far?
It would have to be the people. I wouldn’t have the close relationships I have now without coming to Waikato. I’ve made friends with a broad variety of people from different backgrounds, which adds to my experience and learning.
Number one tip for making the most of uni life?
Get involved and be a part of anything. Don’t waste good opportunities – there are so many of them here. Who knows… you could be heading to Vietnam for an internship if you just give it a shot!
How do you think you can make a difference through your studies?
Fair trade is becoming more and more important to first world countries. I would like to focus on outsourcing and ensuring that developing countries are treated equally and fairly.
