Ways to give back

Every gift makes a big difference

With your help, we can create positive change in our communities. We know that education, and removing barriers to education, is essential for responding to the issues our society faces. When you support the University of Waikato, you are supporting students to think big and deliver innovative solutions to the world. Thank you for helping us shape the future.

Online donations
Make an online donation and choose where you would like your gift to go towards: supporting students through scholarships, advancing critical research, enhancing students’ learning facilities, or allow the University to direct it towards the area of greatest need. If you would prefer to make donations directly into the Foundation bank account via internet banking, just get in touch and we can provide the details.

Naming opportunities
Naming rights has long been an important part of philanthropy in recognising the generosity of donors. At the University of Waikato, naming opportunities are available for individuals and organisations looking to help create positive change in our communities and make a lasting impact. Contact us to learn what opportunities are right for you.

Bequests and gifting other assets
If you are thinking of gifting the University any assets, we encourage you to talk this through further with us. There are some situations under which we can accept gifts of stocks, shares, bonds or real estate, or significant artworks, musical instruments or cultural collections relevant to our areas of study. You may also wish to name the University as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, which would enable you to leave a legacy to the University for the cost of monthly insurance premiums.

Non-financial support
We are also very grateful for non-financial support to help students, such as donated products or services, or offering to mentor a student or host interns at your organisation through the University’s Work Integrated Learning programme. There are many ways you can help – talk to us to find an option that works for you.

Payroll giving
Payroll giving is a 'give as you earn' scheme that allows you to donate directly from your pay and receive 33.33% tax back immediately. It is a voluntary scheme for employers and employees, with the main benefit of an immediate tax rebate and no need to make an annual claim. The University of Waikato Foundation is an IRD approved organisation for payroll giving.

Payroll giving for University of Waikato staff
Many staff over the years have indicated a willingness to support the University. Staff can donate as much or as little as they wish from their fortnightly pay and receive an immediate tax rebate. Payroll Giving is managed by logging in to Āku Mahi, then View Deductions. Donations can be stopped at any time. See full instructions here.

Sponsorships
There are many opportunities for corporate, trust and individual sponsorships at the University, including capital projects, research, scholarships or prizes, or a range of events held throughout the year. Talk to us to see which one is right for you.
