Strategy for The University of Waikato

Discover the University of Waikato strategy. Responsibility for the strategy rests with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neil Quigley.

The Council of the University of Waikato has decided to adopt a Strategy for the period 2022-2024. While this period is shorter than many strategic planning cycles, it reflects our need to focus this Strategy on recovery from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and on investment in work programmes that will ensure a sustainable future for the institution.

The University Strategy was adopted by Council in October 2021.

The University is committed to making progress towards the goals outlined in this Strategy over the next three years but recognises that it is designed to establish a trajectory of action rather than to achieve a particular outcome over that period.

  1. Goal 1

A whole of University focus on student recruitment.

  2. Goal

Improving student retention through higher levels of learner success and innovation in teaching content and practice.

  3. Goal 3

Progressing the objectives of the Taskforce.

  4. Goal 4

Creating, and being known for, research outcomes that embody excellence, impact, relevance and resilience.

  5. Goal 5

Investing in facilities that support academic developments, student recruitment and campus life.

  6. Goal 6

Promoting sustainable futures by advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in every aspect of University operations.
