SheENG at Waikato

A three-day, two-night residential programme for young women exploring engineering - offering a true taste of engineering life and engineering study at tertiary level!

Event details

Dates: 

SheENG is typically held over three days during the summer period. Confirmed dates and times for the next programme in 2027 will be published once available.

Location:

University of Waikato, Hamilton

Accommodation:

Participants usually stay in Halls of Residence, Hamilton Campus

Fees:

SheENG is a FREE programme.

Accommodation and meals are provided for the duration of the programme, from the first evening through to lunch on the final day. Any meals or accommodation outside of the programme dates are at the attendee’s own expense.

Attendees are responsible for travel costs to and from the University of Waikato campus in Hamilton. Travel assistance may be available for those experiencing financial hardship; you may apply for travel assistance by providing relevant details as part of your application.

This programme, hosted by the University of Waikato, will feature:

  • hands-on workshops in cutting-edge labs
  • mentorship from current students
  • talks from industry leaders
  • fun social events

Who can apply

There will be limited student spaces available for the 2027 SheENG programme. 

We will be on the lookout for applicants who: 

  • Identify as female  

  • Are completing Year 11 or 12 in 2026 at a New Zealand secondary school   

  • Are curious, open to learning something new, and eager to explore how innovation and problem-solving can create positive change

Application dates

Applications for the 2027 programme will open later in 2026.

Application guidelines

Before you start the application process, make sure you have the relevant information ready to submit:  

  • Your contact information 

  • Your parent/guardian information  

  • A school reference (name and contact details)  

  • Your most recent NCEA transcript  

  • Details of any relevant academic achievements 

  • Details of any relevant extracurricular activities 

  • Either a written piece (max. 500 words) or video (under 3 minutes) explaining why you want to be involved in SheENG and the value you will bring to the programme if chosen
