Value: Up to $10,000 per annum for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate degree (subject to the recipient maintaining the required level of performance)

The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is one of the University of Waikato's premier school leaver scholarships. It is for those with strengths in three key pillars: 1) high academic achievement, 2) excellence in a sporting code or creative or performing art, and 3) strong leadership qualities or potential. Recipients will be supported during their studies with a tailored leadership and personal development programme. Up to 15 scholarships will be awarded each year. Please note that all applicants are required to submit a 3-minute video of themselves as part of the online application process. This video should outline why you believe you should be considered to be a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar and what it would mean to you. You will need to provide the link to the video in the space provided on the online application form and it must be accessible to all, i.e., the link must be able to be shared with everyone.

For school leavers with strengths in three key pillars: 1) excellence in a sport or creative/performing art, 2) high academic achievement (minimum of NCEA Level 2 with Merit, or equivalent), and 3) strong leadership qualities or potential. Students taking one gap year may also apply.
