Purpose

The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is the University of Waikato's premier school leaver scholarship. It enables recipients to excel and is for those with strengths in three key pillars: 1) excellence in a sporting code or creative or performing art, 2) high academic achievement, and 3) strong leadership qualities or potential. Recipients will be supported during their studies with a tailored leadership and personal development programme.

3-minute Video:

Please note that all applicants are required to submit a 3-minute video of themselves as part of the online application process. This video should outline why you believe you should be considered to be a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar and what it would mean to you. You will need to provide the link to the video in the space provided on the online application form and it must be accessible to all, i.e. the link must be able to be shared with everyone.

Eligibility

For school leavers with strengths in three key pillars: 1) excellence in a sport or creative/performing art, 2) high academic achievement, and 3) strong leadership qualities or potential. Students taking one gap year may also apply. The Selection Panel will also take into account the applicant’s willingness and ability to fully participate in, and contribute to, the Hillary Scholarship Programme.
