This paper is designed to move students beyond traditional, directive models of coaching and instruction towards more contemporary, ecological and athlete-environment centred approaches. The paper provides opportunities for 'theories in action' by developing an applied understanding of learner-centred coaching strategies and coaching as the design of learning environments. Students will explore practice design and intentional strategies for athlete learning in coaching. Finally, the paper includes opportunities for students to consider the potential constraints (facilitators and barriers) on effective use of these pedagogical practices.
