James Harrison studied at the Royal College of Music and then went on to Britain’s National Opera Studio.

James has appeared in concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican, The Wigmore Hall and throughout New Zealand

Since returning James has sung in Tosca, Candide, Trial By Jury and Carmen for New Zealand Opera and sang Germont in La Traviata for a Festival Opera. Before moving back to New Zealand he made his debut for English National Opera and sang at The Royal Opera House. James sings regularly with groups such as the Auckland Choral Society, NZ Barok, and Bach Musica and this year is singing with Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and Napier Civic Choir as well.

James is in demand as a teacher and choral educator, working with top choirs such as the award winning Choralation and Cantare from Westlake and Dilworth’s Fortissimo as well as guest coaching with The New Zealand Youth Choir, Bach Musica and Auckland Choral Society. James also works with young singers, coaching the New Zealand Opera Studio Artists, adjudicating and giving masterclasses. He enjoys a long association with the Dame Malvina Major Foundation, working to further opportunities for young artists in Aotearoa New Zealand.
