What would you do as a Dancer?

Dancers

  • usually work irregular and long hours, including evenings and weekends and may work part time
  • usually work in rehearsal studios and theatres and may travel locally, nationally and internationally
  • need to be creative, and work well in a team and under pressure

How can you become a Dancer?

You need experience to become a dancer and a qualification may be useful.

You need

  • experience in your relevant dance form

You may need

  • a New Zealand Certificate in Dance (Level 4)
  • a New Zealand Diploma in Dance (Level 5 or 6)
  • a Bachelor of Dance Studies

If you're in school

You usually need Level 2 to do the study or training for this job.

Add Dance as a minor alongside your chosen major in a range of our undergraduate degrees. For a strong performance focus, pair it with a Theatre Studies major in our Bachelor of Arts, where you'll rehearse and perform at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. Like all our undergraduate degrees, these include work-integrated learning.
