This paper examines key contemporary issues in Biomedical Ethics, including clinical ethics and public health ethics. It examines core concepts and values in Biomedical Ethics such as patient autonomy, health and well-being, cultural safety, justice, equity and equality. We will analyse a series of case studies that illustrate how ethical dilemmas arise in real-world medical practice. Particular attention is given to the legal and regulatory frameworks that shape ethical practice in Aotearoa New Zealand and across the broader Pacific region, highlighting how legislation, professional guidelines, and regional health governance influence biomedical decision-making.
